Thank you Barry for your prompt reply , what I am trying to achieve actually is something like I'll protect my template.

We are using a Bim Server and my new template contain a lot of gdl work, complex profiles, composites, rendering scenes etc. I don't want someone to be able to use this template for external Projects if make sense.

So I am still thinking to a solution to protect this work. because as far as I know, you can easily save a copy of project, once you have acces to a bim Server, or you can extract all the libraries as well very easily.

Any advice in this way?

Thank you

Point inside a polygon using Polygon Operations Macro

Hi !

First of all, english isn't my native langage, forgive me if my message isn't correct english Smile

I post a message in official Graphisoft forum (http://gdl.graphisoft.com) but without any answer yet ...

----

I try to display a grid of items in a custom polygon.

I define a polygon with 3 hotspots, then I test a grid of points with the Polygon Operations Macro to know if the point are inside. I draw the item if the point is inside or on the contour of the polygon.

I often encounter strange results. Some points are considered on the contour of the polygon even they are not …

I did not find where the error or the bug is, it happens only with specific value.

I enclose a simplified version of the object with default values causing the problem …

Did someone or object of the official library use this macro for this purpose? Have you ever noticed this bad behavior ? Is there a way around this problem?

Thank you in advance,
SimPey.

How do I set the bubble W01 to top and the sill to bottom of the wall? I tried the flip but it is flipping the whole window. All I want is to reverse the marker so that the W01 is on the above the window?

Please see screenshot of the door selected. I am having trouble getting the marker to work for this door object D1 2 Sidelight 17. Does anyone have the same issue? How do I get it to work?

Desperate...

Select another Door the Marker of which is displayed the way you want it and check its settings in the Settings Dialog's Dimension Marker and Marker Settings panels. Then use those same settings on the problematic Door as well. There is really no reason why it shouldn't work on this particular Door type.

Thanks....There are zillion hidden settings...and I had to go through random check/uncheck exercise and found that it is the Renovation Status that affects the marker to show or hide. Phew...quite a process.

Hi everyone,
I have been developing two other objects which might help.

A predimensioned beam: its height increase if you stretch it, following structural predimensioning rules.

"Easy stair": it's my contribution in order to get this tool easier. We can model it in 3D, sections, elevations or plan view.

Thanks for attention.

Drawing Scale Object

Hello all.
We are working on A1 worksheets which most often we are printing them on A3 (50%). I am trying to create an object that shows the scale in both paper sizes as and it would look like:

A1 / 1:100
A3 / 1:200

It is simple to compose the first line with the usage of autotext (<DRAWINGSCALE>) but the actuall text in GDL is "<DRAWINGSCALE>" so i can't use the "1:100" value to SPLIT the text and then convert the "100" to number to multiply it and compose the other line.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

How to get the center of the curved wall?
GDL Reference Guide only show the WALL_DIRECTION & WALL_POSITION.

GDL Reference Guide:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WALL_DIRECTION direction of the wall
straight walls: the direction of the reference line, curved walls: the direction of the chord of the arc

WALL_POSITION absolute coordinates of the wall
array with 3 columns: x, y, z, which means the position of the wall´ s starting point relative to the project origin

you have to calculate it based off its length and radius

Custom Libraries to New AC Versions

Hello everyone,
I am trying to get a consensus on the best strategy for moving custom object libraries from version to version.

Back in 2008 we had a colleague here in our office create a collection of custom library parts for our architecture firm. Whenever a new version of ArchiCAD came out, we went through the lengthy process of opening up each .gsm file in the new version of ArchiCAD, saving, and closing (not "saving as" so we keep the same GUID). In our eyes, this ensured that the object was compatible with the new version, so we weren't trying to insert a v17 object into a v18 project.

Have you had issues with older libraries in newer AC versions? What has been your strategy to bring these objects along over the years?

Have you encountered issues with newer Archicad versions and their ability to read old ArchiCAD objects?

Looking forward to hearing what you have to say!

Custom Libraries to New AC Versions

We have a completely custom library and still have objects dating back to version 6.5 that work perfectly well.
Most of our object have been upgraded over time as we have needed to modify them but still there are many old ones.
In fact I still stript my objects in version 15 just to ensure they are still compatible back to that version.

The only problem I have had is with versions 19 and now 20 in that they have restricted or cancelled the use of some GLOBAL variables and REQUESTs in some scripts (master, parameter and property).
But simply saving in the new versions will not solve these changes - although you should get error messages stating there is a problem.

Barry.

This is a best logic behind library part transfers. Basically, if it ain't broken —á don't fix it.

Library parts should work without any problem from version to version, short of above mentioned changes in Graphisoft's attitude toward GDL in general.

As a general rule, simpler GDL objects will work longer, more complex ones, especially those that rely on some sort of GDL hack, might go out of style rather quickly if the "hack" gets fixed in the new version of GDL.

It might help to know what you are trying to build. If you are coding your own wall then you would be the one defining it.
